A Remarkable Silchester Connection
The choice of Mrs Warren’s Profession has a special resonance for Silchester. In 1926, Desmond Parkinson of Silchester House was instrumental in fundraising for the construction of the village hall, with strong support from his wife, Evelyn Parkinson. It is thought that Evelyn’s relative, Charlotte Grey Jones, better known by her stage name Ellen O’Malley, may have influenced the decision to create such a fine performance space and stage.
By a wonderful coincidence, Mrs Warren’s Profession was one of the plays in which Ellen O’Malley herself once starred — making this screening a fitting and meaningful celebration of both theatre and local history.
