Silchester Village Hall News

New Trustee

A warm welcome to our new Trustee Clare Payne who was elected during our July Trustee meeting. Clare has been helping install and run the new on-line booking hall system – a welcome addition to our team.

New Hire Rates 1st September

We have not increased our hire rates since September 1st 2019, so in order to recover some of our overhead cost increases this has been necessary to ensure we can maintain standards and run the hall in an economical manner. We remain competitive compared with other local halls.

Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)

Calleva Electrical Services Sam Dacre conducted the comprehensive report in May which flagged up one our two faults requiring urgent attention – the main one was fitting a new larger fuse board in the clubroom to reduce the number of fuse boxes from 3 to 1 and to ensure each circuit has an individual RCD.

Fire Risk Assessment

This was conducted in May and as a result we have an action plan to make minor improvements.

Hall Entrance

We now have the go ahead to replace the front and middle doors with wheelchair friendly doors in oak, to decorate the front entrance hall and to fit new flooring and matting. At the same time, we will fit wi-fi enabled door locking to the outside doors so this can be linked into our new on-line booking system.

Balcony Project

This project has been shelved as the Trustees could not justify it as value for money. We are looking at alternative means for the chairs/tables & trollies storage either outside or within the hall.

Big Help Out Day

The next Big Help out Day will be Saturday August 19th with plans to continue painting the cladding on the outside of the clubroom, outside sheds, front entrance hall, kitchen and continue clearing the outside areas.
