Silchester Village Hall News February 2024
Trustees said goodbye and thank you to one of their team members at the December meeting. Paul Miles has served for the last two years as a trustee and as a member of the community both boy and man, he brought a great deal of local knowledge to the committee. Chairman, Steve Spillane, presented Paul with a signed plaque in remembrance of his years service and a bottle of champagne. Paul has promised not to be a stranger and has offered to help trustees with certain projects in the future.
However, this means there is a vacancy for a new trustee. The particular skill set needed is someone with IT and social media knowledge and a bit of time to spare every month. If you think you fit the criteria contact the secretary for more info via the village hall website.
Fine Dining
Postponed As a result of several unexpected calendar conflicts, the village hall trustees have taken the decision to postpone our next Fine Dining event, originally planned for 9 March. We will be hosting this popular event later in the year and will be updating you with the new date asap. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment that this might cause, and look forward to welcoming you to an evening of fine food with specially paired wines, later in the year.
Village Hall AGM
The AGM, to which all members of the Silchester community are welcome to attend, will be in April 2024. The exact date will be announced next month. Please do make a date to come along and hear what is happening at your village hall and take the opportunity to have your say.
Toilet Refurbishment
We have been offered grants from Basingstoke and Deane to refurbish the clubroom toilets and are currently finalising the details and selecting a contractor. The work will be started in the coming weeks and we hope to keep the disruption to hall users to the minimum.
Retiring Chairman
After twelve years of dedicated service to the village hall our Chairman, Steve Spillane, is going to step down at the April AGM. Both Trustees and the community are indebted to Steve’s tireless work and his dedication to the running of the village hall. He has steered through and initiated many projects over the years, all of which have helped elevate our village hall to the next level of community buildings – not least the new roof. Thank you Steve for all your hard work, you’ll be missed!
So, that means the Trustees are looking for a replacement Chairman/woman/person. The Trustees meet once a month currently for a short meeting as a full committee and operate a series of smaller sub-committees which report back to the full committee. The Chairman’s role is interesting and varied and crafted according to the individual. The art of delegation is a given as is being a team player.
