Silchester Village Hall News
King Charles III Coronation – “The Big Help Out”
On Bank Holiday Monday following the King Charles III Coronation, the village hall participated in the country’s Big Help Out. A good start was made on painting the outside of the hall and clearing-out cupboards to make additional storage space. A second date, to which everybody is invited, will be provided for a second Big Help Out to continue the good work!
Village Hall Bookings
Since our last update, there has been a wedding and several birthday parties in the hall, all of which have been a great success. Just another example of how our hall provides a hub for the Community. Don’t forget, our new booking system has been up-and-running and can be accessed via our
website www.silchestervillagehall.org.uk
WiFi & Broadband Upgrade
Problems with the broadband and WiFi in the Village Hall due to the age and reliability of the equipment have now been fixed!. The old equipment has been replaced and is working very well. The network name (SSID) is Silchester Village Hall for both Main Hall and Club Room and the password is villagehall, one word and all lowercase.
Upgraded Heating Controls
We have linked the heating controls for the hall to our new Wifi. This has allowed us to make these controls available via the Tuya smartphone app. This enables the heating in the main hall, clubroom, and committee rooms to switched on or off remotely.
If you are a regular user of the hall and would like to install the Tuya smart app on your phone, it
is available from the Google or Apple app stores free of charge both to install and use. You’ll need to get a code from Steve Spillane to activate the app, after you have installed it on your phone. The time clock still switches off the heating overnight, so if users leave the heating on by mistake it will automatically switch off at 11pm.
Village Hall Insurance
In last month’s news, we shared that we were reviewing our annual insurance of the hall to ensure we have the right level of cover at a competitive rate. As a result of the increased costs of both building and the replacement of fixtures and fittings, we have increased the cover at a better rate than our previous insurer.
Village Hall Health & Safety
The health and safety of anybody who either enters or uses our hall is a top priority. With this in mind, we have had all fire equipment including fire alarms, emergency lighting and the fire exit map etc., checked and updated. We are also having an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) and a Fire Risk Assessment of the hall and making any changes that are necessary.
Village Hall Car Park
Recently, notes have been left on the windscreens of cars parked in the hall car park, signed by SVH (Silchester Village Hall). These notes ask for cars not to be left in the hall car park, unless owned by hall attendees. We would ask the person posting the notes to stop. We have a good relationship with our neighbours and accept the use of the car park by residents of Whistlers Lane during times such as building work, family celebrations, adverse weather, etc.
Next Meeting
The next meeting for the trustees of the village hall will take place at 7:30pm on Monday 10th July
